The Importance of Exercise/Sport

The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start – John Bingham

Fact: Exercise is something that is good for you. A healthy body means a healthy mind and vice versa. A healthy diet and regular exercise gives people a better quality of life. However, all work and no play is a bit boring and I think it’s still important to let your hair down sometimes and have fun. Everything in moderation.

Exercise becomes addictive for some people as it helps to relieve stress or it just becomes a part of someone’s routine. On the other hand some people see exercise as daunting, boring and unappealing. This negative attitude towards exercise needs to change as obesity levels are rising in the UK every year. ‘A survey published in 2012 found that just over a quarter of all adults (26%) in England are obese.’ Some people are not competitive which means they’re reluctant to getting involved in sports teams.

Being a part of a team is a great feeling. Working together to reach new goals and being a part of a different social group can only be positive. This helps people to develop their skills as well as keeping up a healthy lifestyle. This is what people do to relax and wind down outside of work. On the other end of the spectrum is someone who is completely focused on body image, keeping fit and working hard individually to stay exceptionally healthy. This is great for someone who has the motivation to stick to it but, many people don’t. This is where we reach someone who feels alienated by competitive sport, but doesn’t have the motivation to do it alone. There are other ways to keep active that don’t involve either of these which still give you the benefit of exercise.

Classes at your local gym are a fun, easy way to get exercising. Dance classes, yoga and aquatic classes all are different interesting forms of exercise. Trying something new like horse riding or trampolining are also exciting ways of exercise, which can develop in to new hobbies/interests too. Even just taking your dog for a walk for half an hour everyday is good exercise. People forget how easy it is to bring some form of exercise in to their life. People can find motivation from others to get more active and become healthier. This then will enable people to become more body confident and confident within themselves. beFriend will help people to do this.
