How technology has had an impact on society

The advance of technology is based on making it fit in so that you don’t notice it, so it’s part of everyday life – Bill Gates

Mobile technology has massively changed the face of communication. Out of 7 billion people in the world, 6 billion of them are mobile phone users. Many people are concerned over the negative impact technology has on our society, but it’s incredible to see how technology has developed and what it is capable of.

We are continually being exposed to technology, which affects all aspects of our day to day lives. Technology today now impacts how cities grow, where people live and what people own. Technology has become faster, smaller and even more affordable through time. How we work and how we communicate has been revolutionised. Technology makes room for a more flexible society.

The constant development of new technologies in mobile devices is amazing. It’s rapid pace can be hard to keep up with. Phones used to be for people to talk to each other and now they stand as a substitute for any on-the-go device. Texting alone has made a huge impact on the grammar, spelling and punctuation skills of people of all ages. Employers are seeing this now too. Social media has had a huge impact on society. People have used it when there is no other way of communication. For example people were contacting their loved ones when the tsunami, in 2004, broke loose. This is a great example of how social media is used when other forms of communication are unavailable.

Technology is now becoming a necessity. It has the power to force society into a lazy minded state. Technology will never stop moving due to all of the great minds out there. Instead of looking at the negatives that technology produces why not focus on how incredible technology is developing so quickly. Embrace technology. Technology has had a positive impact on society. It’s important that we don’t take technology for granted and lose sight of reality.

I’m always interested in what you can do with technology that people haven’t thought of doing yet – Brian Eno
